Chanca piedra is most famously known as stone breaker for it's ability to break gallstone and kidney stones and allow for them to pass through the system. It's properties of anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antivirus Painkiller, diastolic, and anti diarrhea make it excellent for treating digestive problems, vomiting, bloating, infections of the digestive system, intestines and liver. Treats hepatitis B, Staphylococcus, aureus and pasteurella pestis.
Indigenous uses also include liver conditions, venereal diseases, diabetes, malaria, dysentery, fever, flu, tumors, jaundice, vaginitis, dyspepsia, edema and urine retention.
Considered a general health tonic it is most often prescribed to patients with kidney and liver problems. While rarely dieted it's ability to strengthen and protect cells is what elicits its use to treat cancer and HIV. The spasmolytic properties of the alkaloids help to relax the muscles of the urinary ways and bile ducts, also helping reduce inflammation of the kidneys.
There is not much information on spiritual properties of the plant other than it provides protection from witchcraft
Contraindications: May slow down blood clotting, increasing risk of bleeding for those with clotting disorders. May lower blood sugar levels in those with diabetes. May decrease potassium levels through excretion and may cause electrolyte imbalance which could impact heart rhythm
